OSHA Ends COVID-19 Healthcare Rule
On January 25th 2025, the U.S. Department of Labor announced that the
Occupational Safety and Health Administration terminated its COVID-19
healthcare rulemaking previously issued as an Emergency Temporary Standard to
protect workers June 21, 2021.

Bill Introduced to Abolish OSHA
Representative Andy Biggs (R-AZ) has introduced the NOSHA Act (H.R. 86),
aiming to eliminate OSHA. Similar legislation has been proposed in the past.
While the bill is unlikely to gain traction, ASSP is monitoring developments and will
share updates as needed.

OSHA Updates Recordkeeping Directive
OSHA has issued an updated directive on recordkeeping policies and procedures, reflecting the agency’s efforts to modernize the guidance governing workplace injury and illness reporting. The new directive, Part 1904 Recordkeeping Policies and Procedures (CPL 02-00-172), took effect Jan. 13, 2025.

EPA and CDPHE partner to strengthen civil rights in Colorado
On January 17, 2025, the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announce the signing of an Informal Resolution Agreement under Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and other civil rights statutes. The
agreement is the result of a collaborative effort to enhance civil rights and transparency in Colorado’s air permitting program.

Non-Fatal Injuries – A 20 year Low On December 19th, 2024, U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics’ released its 2023 Census of Fatal Occupational Injuries and the U.S. Department of Labor’s Assistant Secretary for Occupational Safety and Health released that the bureau reported a 20-year low in the rate of non-fatal worker injuries and illnesses in 2023, and we are further encouraged by the news that the number and rate of fatal worker injuries also dropped in 2023. Corporate Wide Ergonomic Program Settlement On December 19th, 2024, the U.S. Department of Labor today announced that the Occupational Safety and Health Administration and Amazon have entered into a corporate-wide settlement to help better protect employees from hazardous working conditions leading to serious lower back and other musculoskeletal disorders at Amazon facilities. The settlement agreement resolves the department’s multiple ergonomics cases against Amazon.com Services LLC, in the first major multi-site investigation brought by OSHA in over a decade. PPE Must Properly Fit – Final Rule On December 11th, 2024, the U.S. Department of Labor announced that its Occupational Safety and Health Administration has finalized a revision to the personal protective equipment standard for construction. The final rule explicitly requires the equipment to properly fit any construction worker who needs it, improving protections from hazardous conditions. For More Info: click here
Oil & Gas Sector Authorized Funding to Reduce Methane Pollution On December 23, 2024 the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the U.S. Department of Energy announced approximately $850 million for 43 projects, including seven projects in the EPA Region 8 states of Colorado and Wyoming, selected for negotiation that will help small oil and gas operators, Tribes, and other entities across the country to reduce, monitor, measure, and quantify methane emissions from the oil and gas sector as part of President Biden’s Investing in America agenda.
